What do you get from a combination of Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, and Secret of Mana? Yeah, you get Chained Echoes. This game is like a love letter to all the classic RPG masterpieces from the SNES/PS1 era. This game hits all the bells and whistles that makes a great RPG... well, great!
Right from the get go this game starts like Chrono Trigger, with you in your bed being woken up by your mom. After that, you're on an airship alla FFIV (but the size and shape feels more like FFVI), then we're flying mechas like in Xenogears! And where does Secret of Mana come in? Combat and sound effects all remind me of nothing but Secret of Mana! I'm telling you I fell in love within the first hour!
And what studio created this? Well, remember how we found it amazing that Thomas Happ was the sole creator of Axiom Verge? That fantastic Metroidvania that came out like 8 years ago? Well, one person also working on this game, alone. This person is none other than Matthias Linda... yep, also made by one person! Amazing!
