Now I think it's time to forget about ed2k and start concentrating on KADemlia. If donkey servers go down, there will be no more seriuous and sure servers. The only way to protect the network, is to improve the kad. This is a strange feature request, but it's necessary to make kad more powerful.

Yes, but that day there were all the donkey and all the bigbang. Did you notice that peerates.net considers only 7 servers as sure? Is it possibile to keep on downloading with seven server? which are suspect servers, btw

I think we can´t let panic control us... we will always have Kad.
I turned off ed2k and right now I´m downloading pretty well... almost like always

Exactly what do you want to improve?

I have been mostly KAD only connected for a long time and I've done almost all my searching through KAD with good results.

Kad does not support comments and votes, does not have an obfuscation, still have more problem than ed2k, so I think some of this problems could be solved...

I also agree. There are to less servers which can be taken down to easy. Just imagine there are no more servers in future, new users can`t even find the first peers for kad.

Why can't new users download a nodes.dat to get his first contacts?
Kad is future and need some improvement yet, but present is ed2k, and there still enough servers working. Don't forget some routers do not support kad traffic and some clients do not have kad implemented, we don't want to loose this sources, at least I don't.

Cheers :D

It lacks obfuscation which will probably arrive in one of the next versions. But it supports comments. Not sure about the ratings.

Besides I'm still not seeing a feature request in this thread. Really rather pointless.
Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

yep... should be in eMule's general discussions

The extreme limit of wisdom, that is what the public calls madness.

I`m also using only KAD; 2 or 3 years, it works very well.
Many users don`t know what KAD is, they turn eMule on... and OK it`s working! We must do something so eMule would be more dependent on KAD than on ed2k servers.
If we as deafult will continue to use ed2k server, in time this network will fail!
It`s enought to put in tv information that eMule servers were closed and police is investigating; who, what and were, propaganda and it`s own users gonna kill eMule .
We should start to forget about ed2k servers, yes they can be easily closed and reopened as well, but main thing is to create independent network, to be not bothered by fake servers and information they gather.
Main concern for me; there is not much talking about creating really serverless, independent network based on KAD.

Please take it for consideration

Are you sure? don't you know that the sure servers are 7? and sometimes they fails in connecting? Usenext.to, Razorback 3.1, eMule serverlist nr1 and razorback 3.0, in my list, they fails connecting. The files in index are less than 100M. Users are less than 650K. I agree with dev84, we need to make Kad network able to support our future, and leave ed2k to it's own destiny. Servers Network, they are all falling down, the future is in serverless and decentralized networks.

We do not intend to drop support for servers, there are advantages which only a half-centralized system like servers can offer. That said, of course we do continue to work on kad too, if you look into the version history you will see that there was worked on kad nearly every version.

I'm afraid that will very soon prove to be a good thing...

I believe that you'd better focus mainly on the kad part, now.
I don't know, of course, what is the future of ed2k, but obviously kad has to become the main emule heart, IMHO.

(but I won't say "drop ed2k". At least not now...)

Perhaps it's time to see the problem in another way and to think about another type of p2p infrastructure which can itself manage its own connectivity without servers, being self-regulative but different from Kad.

And then abandon the *mule? Or add another network? and make of eMule one of the heaviest software? why should we abandon KAD, which is our salvation?
The development until now are based on "using better the servers and ed2k" or "make compatibility with Vista". f*** off the Microsoft OS, let's do something that really can help the comunity. I know that the 0.48a was intended as a version to improve the use under Vista, but now it's time to work on KAD. We need a KAD 3.0. I am very sorry if I'm acting as a stupid and presumptuous and arrogant, but I don't want to see this software becoming another eDonkey2000 or WinMX or stuff like that. I really love this p2p software, and mine was just an advice, no command or something else.
People is starting concetrating on KAD, and so it's needed a great work on this net.
