We ordered quite a few dishes. Salt and pepper fried tofu, gobi manchurian, hot and sour soup, black pepper chicken chowmein, wontons with chilli sauce. Most of these items were either recommended by our hostess or were listed on the popular items section on a black board display with the exception of the hot and sour soup.
Our hostess was sweet and had on a smile all through. She was eager to recommend the dishes and described them in quite some detail. And the dishes came out at almost lightning speed.
Black pepper chowmein: flavor unlike anything we had before. The dish was flecked with copious amounts of black pepper but surprisingly didn't cause an upset tummy later. Absolutely delicious and I highly recommend getting this.
Gobi Manchurian: this is a Chinese restaurant so we were surprised to find this indo Chinese dish on the menu complete with its original Indian name, gobi means cauliflower in Hindi. We ordered it more out of curiosity. It's nowhere close to the indo chinese dish, it's more like orange chicken complete with a crisp outer layer and doused in sweet and sticky sauce. It was pretty good though I don't enjoy the sweet flavor much.
Salt and pepper tofu: I had the best fried tofu at a restaurant in Oregon and over the years struggled to find anything that comes close to it. The fried tofu here was good, seemed to be made with soft tofu. The outer layer was crispy but quickly dissolves to give way to its more soft interior. Though not the best I had, I enjoyed the version here.
Wontons with chilli sauce: I expected this dish to be spicy but it had a lot of sweet elements. The wontons were drizzled with several sauces like peanut, sweet and chilli sauce.
Hot and sour soup: this was bad. No other way to describe it. We attributed it to lack of salt but nothing helped redeem it. We were forced to leave the bowl though we hate wasting food.
Based on the items we tried I would rate it at 4. But it was obvious the chef is pretty talented. Service is fast, prices are low and quality is exceptional. I want to go back and try their fried rice, curries and eggplant dishes.Helpful 4Thanks 4Love this 4Oh no 0 - Mar 7, 2024
I came here with a friend and got the basil vegetarian chow fun and thai green curry. They were both good, but enjoyed the chow fun more. It's had to get chow fun, so anytime I see it, I like to get it.
We sat comfortably. The place wasn't crowded on a Tuesday night. The staff was nice and attentive.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 23, 20242 check-ins
This place is a gem! If there's a restaurant that could convince me to go vegetarian for life, this would be the spot. All of your traditional Chinese dishes turned vegetarian/vegan thanks to the use of soy!
I brought my dad here for his birthday because he's not much of a meat eater these days, but he still loves Chinese dishes. He ended up getting the Black Pepper Chicken Chow Mein and I got the Sweet and Sour Pork (usually my go to at Chinese restaurants).
If you love black pepper, you will love the black pepper chow mein. The dish is so full of black pepper that you can just taste it at the forefront of every bite. I took a bite out of it and it was a little much for me, but my dad absolutely enjoyed it!
As for me, I loved my sweet & sour pork. If you gave this dish to me without telling me that the meat was replaced with soy, I wouldn't have questioned it. They do such a great job recreating the dish with soy such that you wouldn't know the difference! Not to mention that the flavor really comes through and the dish is super tasty throughout! The entrees don't come with rice, so you do have to order rice separately.
Best part of all this is that it's not super expensive! Almost every dish on the menu is under $15 per plate, and they give you a hefty serving! Absolute must go!Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 2, 2024
Drinks 10/10! Got Thai soy milk tea and lychee sake slush (alc) both were fantastic!!
Food overall: everything was a vegan take on traditional Asian food and all was yummy. I would say though that a lot of the flavor profile was not what I expected from these dishes I grew up eating but they were still delicious in their own ways nevertheless. We got Kimchee fried rice (a little spicier than expected), scallion pancake (sooo good and crispy), black pepper chicken, wonton in chili sauce (sweeter than expected). All the dishes came out very beautiful and very quickly! Service was kind and fast.
Love this mom and pop shop. Would come back again!Helpful 0Thanks 2Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 28, 20241 check-in
We were there on a Sunday evening and last guest, probably, as there was no one there. It's a small restaurant in a strip center.
We started off with hot and sour soup and fried scallion pancakes. So we can have the appetizer come in while we decide on the rest of the order.
We were told the kitchen will be closing soon and to order the rest of the items. We ordered basil eggplant, basil vegetatable chow mein, kimchi fried rice, and thai green curry along with some white rice.
We got our hot and sour soup, it was hot but no heat and not enough seasoning, but since it was a soup, no biggie we added salt, tasted ok.
We started to receive other items, but the appetizer pan cake was the last to arrive. But it was worth the wait. It was different. It was like a sandwich with sauce in between, and it tasted great. Fried scallion pancakes are a must-have at this place.
We had ordered all dishes at spice level 3 (level 1 to 4).
Kimchi fried rice was good, but Kimchi was not to be found, though there were some cabbage pieces, but they were not kimchee. It can pass for decent fried rice. It was not spicy.
Basil Eggplant was not only looking good and tasted good as well spice level was ok, I will say it was level 2, not 3.
Basis vegetatable chow mein spice level was 3 they had used rhe thick noodle coated nicely with sauce and little chewy tasted good as well.
Thai Green curry was more like a pink/red curry. See the picture, and it tasted like one. Though tasted ok, but not as expected.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - 718447Feb 16, 2024
What a find!
Came here with a girlfriend on Lunar New Year and enjoyed our experience. Loved the variety of vegetarian options!
Scallion Pancakes - This was my friend's favorite of what we ordered and was my least favorite. I felt that it lacked scallions, but it was a good dough item to balance out the oil in the other dishes.
Kimchi Fried Rice - This was good, but I'm weak to spice, so I probably wouldn't get it again.
Spicy Eggplant and Tofu - This was the perfect amount of spice for me and was my favorite of what we ordered. The eggplant was perfect--not mushy like other places.
String Beans - A staple order and was cooked well with just the right amount of crisp.
Thai Soy Milk Tea - The soy milk tasted fresh, and the drink was lovely. At boba places, I don't typically order soy milk because the drink feels watered down--not the case here. I will order this every time I come.
The service was good, and the ambiance was nice--not upscale, not a hole in the wall, but comfortable.
Looking forward to coming back!Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Chelsea C.Oakland, CA7175151Apr 12, 2024
Haven't tried the food yet. This is more about service. The one server was rude. Although she took my order Togo order she wouldn't hand anything to me directly. I was standing right in the front waiting for my food after I ordered and when it was ready she left it on the table to my right and just walked away and just said" here." I asked if it was mine because I was bit confused that it was my order she confirmed. I then went on to ask for Chilli oil and she placed one prefilled in front of me on a bill plate, I asked for a second one and she said I can use the ones for the table (for the sit down customers) but I wanted a to go container so I can add it freshly. She took a while to grab the next container and it was empty so I could fill it up on my own even though they had prefilled ones. This time I'm standing closer to where she placed the first one and instead of handing it directly to me she tries to put it in front of me. I put my hand out so she couldn't move past my hand and she kept trying. So she put it in my hand. I left after that. I ordered the wonton soup and the shrimp fried rice and they only give you 4 tiny wonton for the entire soup the rest is spinache veggies and carrots. It's weird to me you only get four and their tiny not worth the money and I haven't tasted anything yet

This is my new favorite vegetarian restaurant. Off the top of the bat, the menu states "Americanized Chinese Cuisine" and the food appeals to my palate. Here's what my table of 4 ordered:
A8 Pepper and Salt Fried Tofu
A3 Homemade VG Wonton with Chili Sauce (8)
S9 Black Pepper Chicken Chow Mein
E36 Garlic Eggplant
E27 Thai Green Curry
E19 Crispy Fried Tofu with Minced Vegetables
We had some leftovers, but who doesn't love leftovers. Service was fast and competent. I can't wait to return.Helpful 4Thanks 2Love this 6Oh no 1 - May 26, 2023
This is a very unassuming looking little place at the corner of San Antonio Rd and El Camino. We were looking for a vegetarian dinner of Chinese or Asian food and this fit the bill perfectly. Awesomely great food with super fast and friendly service.
I uploaded pics of our food. All dishes were a hit! I especially liked:
A8: salt and pepper fried tofu
E36 :Garlic eggplant
This is good that is not just good vegetarian, but absolutely great food, period! For me (J-A sansei), the balance of spiciness is perfect. If you want spicier, they'll adjust up for you. Really accommodating.
Anyways, best a path here. Great food at modest (for these times) prices.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 8, 20233 check-ins
OMgoodness! Why o Why haven't I been here before? It's a very unassuming store front and I drive by it ALL THE TIME lol
But today I was really wanting a vegan wonton soup and I thought this place was vegetarian but EVERYTHING is actually vegan - woot woot!
So I got my large soup = the wontons on the side - housemade and they it was so satisfying once I added a bit of white pepper and a tad more garlic to it.
I also tried the lunch special of Mongolian Chicken expecting to not enjoy it as a lot of meat substitutes are weird but not this one - so tasty and yet not chicken flavored which I appreciated - and you automatically get brown rice and some noodles with it.
Super friendly and dang are they fast at cooking - my order came out in less than 5 minutes it seemed and I saw a guy sit down and order - and no kidding like 3 minutes later - his lunch was served!
Lunch deals are really generous = definitely already thinking about getting more of that soup tomorrow and curious about their rendition of eel - maybe mushroom based?
If you are looking for some veggie love in your life - come here!Helpful 13Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 1
